It started in a shed.

In 2014, Chad Whatley started matching surfers with second-hand boards out of a shed in his backyard in Port Macquarie. The idea was simple: buying a used board shouldn't be a gamble. Someone should check the thing, price it honestly, and stand behind it.

The wave that started it

Chad had been surfing since he was eight, when his dad first pushed him into a wave. He chased that feeling all the way to Hawaii's North Shore — and not long after coming home, a heavy wipeout at a local beach break fractured his C7 vertebra. A few millimetres worse and he might never have walked again.

Recovery meant years of slow rehab, walking the beaches he used to surf. The shed became the way back to the ocean: sourcing boards up and down the east coast, sitting down with every surfer who walked in — groms to grandads — and matching them to the right board, one conversation at a time. "The ocean to me brings natural calm happiness," Chad told ABC News — and sharing that is still the whole point.

The shed grew. The job didn't change.

A decade on, the shed has become racks of 300+ boards — new models from Australian shapers, lightly used trade-ins, and well-loved workhorses. Every board that comes through gets inspected, graded and honestly described before it's listed. If we wouldn't ride it, we don't sell it.
